Electric Vehicle (EV) Incentives

  

Several federal and state specific incentives are available to eligible owners of electric vehicles. These incentive programs are governed and offered by government agencies, differ by state and are outside of CUPRA Australia’s control. Eligibility and availability are subject to change at the discretion of the government agencies and may change at any time, including the period between ordering order and taking delivery of your vehicle. Federal Incentives

Australia is investing over $24.55 million through the first round of the Future Fuels Fund to support the installation and rollout of more than 400 publicly accessible fast charging stations. Additionally, the Government has announced co-investment with the private sector to fund 50,000 charging stations in Australian homes. There has also been a $5 million grant to the Australian Clean Energy Electric Vehicle (ACE EV) Group to support domestic battery electric vehicle manufacturing and a vehicle-to-grid trial.

New South Wales

Incentives

The New South Wales Government provides significant assistance to people purchasing electric vehicles by phasing out stamp duty and introducing a $3,000 subsidy for the first 25,000 eligible electric vehicles sold. There has been a $105 million investment via a reverse tender auction process to assist private businesses, non-for-profits and local councils transition their fleets to electric. NSW is also leading the country in its investment in a state-wide public charging network, with a plan to support both urban and regional travel.

Eligibility

You qualify for a rebate if you are a New South Wales resident, and you register an eligible vehicle from the 1st of September 2021.

Victoria

Incentives

The Victorian Government has a vision of a fully decarbonised road transport sector by 2045, with an interim target of 50% of all light vehicle sales to be zero emissions vehicles. In support of these targets, many Victorian electric vehicle owners will be eligible for the Zero and Low Emissions Vehicle (ZLEV) registration discount of $100.

Western Australia

Incentives

The Western Australian Government has invested $20 million in its public fast-charging network of over 90 chargers at 45 locations, averaging less than 200km apart to reduce range anxiety. Additionally, eligible electric vehicles are exempt from the On-Demand Passenger Transport Levy. The WA EV Strategy has a target of achieving a minimum 25% electric vehicle for all new light and small passenger, and small and medium SUV government fleet by 2025/26.

Eligibility

The ZEV Rebate is available for Western Australian residents and businesses with premises in Western Australia who have vehicles registered from 10 May 2022.

Australian Capital Territory

Incentives

The ACT has numerous financial incentives for residents purchasing an electric vehicle. Eligible applicants will receive two years of free registration on new or used ZEVs, residents can apply for a $15,000 interest-free loan to assist with the purchase of the vehicle and ZEVs that are purchased for the first time are eligible for a full stamp duty exemption. The Government has also committed $1.3M to deliver 50 publicly accessible EV chargers in the ACT in 2022.

Eligibility

New or used zero emissions vehicles purchased or acquired in the ACT from 24 May 2021 and before 30 June 2024 will receive two years of free registration. If eligible, the registration component of vehicle registration fees will be waived.

Queensland

Incentives

The Queensland Government offers a $3,000 incentive for 15,000 cars under $58,000, in addition to placing electric vehicles in the lowest registration fee segment – saving owners a minimum of $70.00. Additionally, Queensland has funded the initial installation of 31 fast-charging sites for the Queensland Electric Superhighway (QESH) in 2017 with a further investment of $2.5 million for 13 additional charging stations in 2020.

Eligibility

$3,000 rebates are available to eligible Queensland individuals and businesses who have purchased a new Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) with a dutiable value of up to $58,000 (including GST) on or after 16 March 2022. As at the introduction of this Scheme, a ZEV refers to a full battery electric vehicle (BEV) only.

Incentives

The South Australian Government has a commendable package of incentives for electric vehicle owners, offering a $3,000 subsidy for 7,000 new BEV sales under $68,750 as well as a 3-year registration fee exemption for new BEVs until July 1, 2025. They also offer up a $2,000 subsidy for electric vehicle owners installing an EV smart charging station in their home.

Eligibility

To be eligible for EV Smart Charging Subsidy the system must include a 7kW or above smart EV charger that is remotely and dynamically managed to respond to total site electricity demand and to align EV charging with periods of high renewable energy generation and/or low electricity grid demand.
